Planned Giving

When you include the Disarm Education Fund in your will, you perpetuate a commitment to peace and social justice throughout the world.

The Disarm Education Fund has built a legacy for peace and social justice throughout the international community. For countless people around the globe, we have made a real and lasting difference that we are proud of. Our ongoing programs are unmatched in their positive impact and sustainable results.

Now, we're asking you to help ensure the future of social justice by committing to our program for the long-term.

You can have an impact on world peace well into the future by making a planned gift to Disarm. Disarm is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization; all gifts are tax-deductible for income and estate purposes. We offer several opportunities to combine your commitment to a better global future with your own financial planning needs:

  • A Gift of Cash entitles you to a charitable deduction on your income tax of up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. Simply write your check to the Disarm Education Fund - or use your Visa, MasterCard, or American Express card - to give an immediate boost to our vital programs. And if your employer matches charitable gifts, you can double the value of your support while still receiving a charitable deduction.
  • A Gift of Appreciated Assets can be stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or real estate held for at least a year - enables you to take a charitable tax deduction equal to the asset's current fair market value. You also avoid any capital gains taxes that would be incurred if the assets were sold outright.
  • A Gift Through Your Last Will and Testament allows you to bequeath either a specific dollar amount or a portion of what remains of your estate after other obligations have been fulfilled. Your charitable bequest can significantly reduce estate taxes, providing more security for your heirs, while also making a lasting statement about your life and values. For a specific bequest, simply include the following wording in your will: "I give, devise and bequeath to the Disarm Education Fund, located at 113 University Place, New York, NY 10003, the sum of $___ [or describe the specific property you intend to bequeath].
  • Giving Life Insurance is an excellent way to make a substantial, meaningful contribution through a modest cash outlay. Just a few hundred dollars a year in premium payments, which are fully tax deductible, can purchase a $100,000 insurance policy. When you name Disarm as the owner of a new or existing policy as well as its irrevocable beneficiary, you receive an immediate income tax deduction equivalent to the policy's cash value. You can also deduct subsequent premium payments from your taxes.
  • Life-Income Gifts enable you to help secure your own future and at the same time help Disarm. This plan can be especially attractive if you own low-yield but highly appreciated securities, and want to increase your income while avoiding capital gains taxes. A Charitable Gift Annuity, for example, will provide regular, partially tax-free retirement benefits. It offers an immediate income-tax deduction and reduces future estate taxes, and you can transfer appreciated stock or other property to Disarm without paying capital gains taxes. After your lifetime, your gift's remaining principal will pass to Disarm.

We will work with you and your advisors to develop a planned gift best suited to your needs. Just call Disarm's General Counsel, Howard Gressey, at 212-353-9800 or email him at hgressey@disarm.org. All inquiries are held in the strictest confidence.
