News: Disarm Implements 4 Point Action Plan
July 26, 2004
Working in coalition with the Washington Office on Latin America and the Latin American Working Group, Disarm is about to launch a four-point action program.
- First, Disarm will work with moderate voices in the
Cuban-American community to break the myth that all Cuban-Americans
unanimously support the Bush policies.
- Second, Disarm will begin a series of newspaper ads
in south Florida highlighting the cruelty of the current travel restrictions
and the negative impact they have on Cuban families…both here and in
Cuba.
- Third, Disarm will reach out to the hundreds of thousands
of Americans – students, academics, health professionals, and
businesspeople – all ordinary citizens who have traveled to Cuba.
Those who have been there know first-hand that our nation's Cuba policy
is foolish and inhumane. These voices of experience can be particularly
effective in educating other citizens and lawmakers.
- Fourth, Disarm will organize institutions affected by the current travel restrictions. We will work with universities, hospitals, non-profit organizations and foundations, religious groups and grassroots organizations that have been denied licenses to travel to Cuba by the current Bush restrictions. These institutions can also exert pressure on local and state officials, and win favorable coverage on local radio and television stations and in newspapers.
